Student-Centered Learning in Action

At Imagine RBC, we believe that true motivation sparks when learning is completely student-centered. Our interdistrict programs are designed to break down school boundaries, bringing diverse student communities together to collaborate, explore, and grow.

Whether diving into history, experimenting in science, analyzing literature, or creating in the arts, our students don't just sit in a classroom, they drive the discovery!

Mystical Voyages (Grades 4–6)

Overview

Mystical Voyages brings together 283 students across grades 4–6 from five diverse Connecticut school districts—Hartford, Middletown, Andover, Scotland, and Sprague. By partnering urban and suburban classrooms, the program breaks down regional, racial, and socioeconomic barriers, fostering cultural competence and teamwork while aligning with CT Core and Next Generation Science Standards.

Key Activities

Cultural Exchange & Team Building: Students connect monthly via letters and emails, engage in guided journaling, and participate in team-building retreats at Camp Hazen and a conflict-resolution assembly at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy.

Astronomy & Astronomy STEM: Students study the night sky, constellations, and diverse cultural mythologies through visits to the Treworgy and Gengras Planetariums, alongside hands-on lessons with an inflatable STARLAB Planetarium.

Creative Writing: Working with a local author, students write and illustrate their own original myths, culminating in a published anthology titled the Book of Mystical Myths.

Space Simulation: Students participate in an interactive, high-stakes space station simulation at the Challenger Learning Center (Discovery Science Center).

Cultural Palette (Grades 2–3)

Program Overview

Guided by the philosophy "In Diversity There is Beauty and There is Strength," Cultural Palette connects approximately 230 students across 10 classrooms from six school districts—Hartford, Middletown, Andover, Scotland, Sprague, and Windham. The program brings together a highly diverse student population (49% diversity) to build meaningful friendships, appreciate multicultural heritages, and boost academic achievement.

Key Activities

Multicultural Literature & Journaling: Students explore diverse cultural histories by reading and analyzing celebrated multicultural stories, sharing their personal reflections through small-group discussions and journaling.

Arts & Interactive Learning: Master artists and educators lead culturally responsive lessons spanning language arts, visual arts, and performance arts.

Global Geography: Using world atlases and curated international texts, students build a foundational understanding of different countries, environments, and heritages.

Community Connection: Collaborative evening and weekend events bring families from different districts together to build a supportive, inclusive community network.
